The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Browning is looking for a full-time Lower and Middle School Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position will begin on or around August 27, 2026. The expected annual salary range for this position is $75,000-115,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be approved to work in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
A successful CSE teacher will understand how to work with a wide developmental range of students from Grades 4-8. In addition, the teacher must be comfortable overseeing a Middle School robotics program, with after school meetings and occasional weekend competitions. The teacher must be able to teach Python, command-based website design, and introductory robotics with LEGO Spike Prime. All Browning teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and delivering the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for their subject matter and for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our School -- knowing our boys and teaching them well. Among other things, this role is tasked with:
- Teaching CSE courses in Grades 4-8 and understanding the developmental spread of these ages as well as the curricular tasks outlined above
- Creating and implementing an inspiring curriculum in conjunction with department members focused on Browning’s learning targets for computer science and engineering, including the Browning principles of design thinking
- Leading the Middle School robotics program for two FLL teams, which meet during as well as after school and compete on weekends in and out of New York City
- Preparing and maintaining material, inventory, and space independently in the technology lab, ensuring all safety regulations are followed
- Hosting Celebrations of Learning to showcase student projects and learning for families
- Advising a group of students in the Middle School
- Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
- Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the department and faculty
- Participating in professional development to grow the self, department, and school
- Communicating with families about curricular and student matters
- Implementing supervisory duties as assigned, such as recess, lunch, or study hall coverage
- Heartily contributing to the school community
